Local Artists at Samuel’s Kitchen

From 30th September to 14th of October: Helen Hunt, author and illustrator of children’s story book Steelosaurus, and ‘Midpack Rider’ Tom Faulkner whose work celebrates his passion for outdoor sports and the city of Sheffield. Neil Rattenbury exhibits three wildlife canvas-bonded prints from three safaris he has travelled on in three different countries. To accompany the photographs he will display a book he has written describing the safaris and illustrated with a selection of prints from each of the three countries.

Drop into this fantastic little café to see the work of two talented local artists and have a cuppa with Tracy and her lovely staff. Opening hours 7.30 – 14.00

Local Artists at Voyager Art Space

A pop-up art gallery for Homegrown at 473 Manchester Rd! Open from 2nd to 14th October, M, Tu, W, Sa, Su 10.00 – 16.00, Th, F 16.00 – 19.00. Featuring Paulette Falcidia – an intuitive artist generally working with mixed media, Josette Falcidia – specialist in decorative paint finishes and a craft tutor, Stephen Hetherington – sculptor, working with traditional and modern materials, Art About ‘Ere – sketchbooks and pictures from the outdoor art group, Drop In Group – work from a group of senior citizens who regularly get together and sometimes get creative!

The Meeting Place Art Exhibition

Begins at Christ Church on 30th September and runs for the whole festival A wonderful display of painting, crafts, poetry and writing. Drop by and have a cup of tea with these wonderful homegrown artists and makers. The Art Society Exhibition is also running here.

Exhibition At Stocksbridge Library

Throughout the Festival there will be a display of poetry and prose in Stocksbridge Library, written by members of Stocksbridge Library’s Writing for Pleasure group.

The Great HomeGrown Art Trail

Last year local children provided dozens of drawings and paintings about ‘Our Town’. This year business along the high street will once again become a gallery for the children’s creations, exploring this year’s theme of ‘Our Town Past and Future’.

Art Round ‘Ere

10.00 – 12.00. Meet at Don Field Deepcar. Paint, draw and sketch outdoors in our beautiful local countryside. Art tuition with a bit of local history and environmental education. Story Time with Suzy Senior

10.30 – 11.15 Stocksbridge Library. Suzy Senior is an incredible storyteller; children adore her funny stories which have even been read out on Cbeebies. HomeGrown Proms

19.30 – 21.30 The Venue, Main Hall. Concert with Waldershelf Singers and Deepcar Brass Band. Our own Home Grown Proms with songs from our local community choir, Waldershelf Singers, and some good tunes from Deepcar Brass Band. The bar will be open, and a good time is guaranteed. 19.30 – 22.30 The Venue. A group of local singer songwriters present an evening to celebrate their music. Pop along to this wonderful free concert. Featuring Domino Effect, SatNav Pete, Jason Quincey and more.

Thursday 5th October

Open Garden – Sculpture and Biodiversity

10.00 – 16.00 4 Armitage Rd, Deepcar. Noel Lockley’s work is all made from recycled materials, mainly steel and stone. Each piece has its own story. His garden was the winner of a garden of the year green fingers competition.  In his garden he concentrates on making art on biodiversity and showing how to make a functioning outside space, whether in a large garden or a hanging basket.

You CAN join a choir!

14.00 – 15.30 at Inman Pavilion. Free event. Do you want to join a choir or singing group, but have never plucked up courage to do so? Workshop with fun, games and cake to encourage people to join choirs. Led by Hilary Osborn. Hilary is an experienced performer, choral director and a professional trained singer.

The Meeting Place

From 14.00 to 16.00 we will be offering afternoon tea (open to the public, small charge) to encourage visitors to the displays and to look at the garden which the Meeting Place created.

Open Invitation to Millhouse Green Male Voice Choir rehearsal

19.00 – 21.30 Millhouse Green Institute. We’ll have our usual rehearsal on 9th October but we’re happy to have visitors – singing or not singing – who may like to pop in and see what we do! We always have tea / coffee biscuits / cake from 19.00, so do come and meet us. We are always happy to see (and even hear!) new members.

Home Grown Introduction to Local Carols

19.30 – 21.30 at The Venue. Waldershelf Singers invite you to come along to one of their rehearsals. We are going to be looking at some of our traditional local carols. Bring your Blue Book if you have one, if not, we will lend you one. Come and learn the tunes, or even the different parts so you can sing in harmony! No booking required, just turn up and join in. There will be cake. Free event.

Chat and Craft

Lovely Bygones

Wednesday 21st July sees our first performance for 16 months with “Lovely Bygones” 7 sketches written during lockdown about the history of the valley. This first performance is for an invited audience from the Community Care Group but we will go public in December at the Rugby Club.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Shakespeare for kids

Shakespeare 4Kidz musical version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Translated so everyone can understand. Loosing none of its original charm, this version is fast paced, fun and reaches out to all the family.

You wan to start somewhere with Shakespeare well this version is a great way to do it.

We promise you a joyful, colourful, fairy filled experience at Fox Valley Piazza (yes out doors) on the 25th of September two shows and then 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th at what is now our official home, Christ Church at 7.15pm.
