Steel Valley Beacon to Perform Disney Classic – Beauty and the Beast.
After a fabulous run with “A Christmas Carol” Steel Valley Beacon Arts would like to announce that auditions will take place for Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” on the 12th/13th of January at Christ Church. The show will be performed over two weekends in May 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th 2024.
If you would like to audition or to ask any questions, then email SVBA on steelvalleybeaconarts1@gmail.com by 5pm on January 10th.
Come along if you’d like to try out for a Beast, a Belle, a Gaston, any of the main characters or become a member of our wonderful cast of supporting actors and singers.
Rehearsals will start on January 19th, 2023, at Christ Church.

Homegrown Festival 2023
Local Artists at Samuel’s Kitchen
From 30th September to 14th of October: Helen Hunt, author and illustrator of children’s story book Steelosaurus, and ‘Midpack Rider’ Tom Faulkner whose work celebrates his passion for outdoor sports and the city of Sheffield. Neil Rattenbury exhibits three wildlife canvas-bonded prints from three safaris he has travelled on in three different countries. To accompany the photographs he will display a book he has written describing the safaris and illustrated with a selection of prints from each of the three countries.
Drop into this fantastic little café to see the work of two talented local artists and have a cuppa with Tracy and her lovely staff. Opening hours 7.30 – 14.00
Local Artists at Voyager Art Space
A pop-up art gallery for Homegrown at 473 Manchester Rd! Open from 2nd to 14th October, M, Tu, W, Sa, Su 10.00 – 16.00, Th, F 16.00 – 19.00. Featuring Paulette Falcidia – an intuitive artist generally working with mixed media, Josette Falcidia – specialist in decorative paint finishes and a craft tutor, Stephen Hetherington – sculptor, working with traditional and modern materials, Art About ‘Ere – sketchbooks and pictures from the outdoor art group, Drop In Group – work from a group of senior citizens who regularly get together and sometimes get creative!
The Meeting Place Art Exhibition
Begins at Christ Church on 30th September and runs for the whole festival A wonderful display of painting, crafts, poetry and writing. Drop by and have a cup of tea with these wonderful homegrown artists and makers. The Art Society Exhibition is also running here.
Exhibition At Stocksbridge Library
Throughout the Festival there will be a display of poetry and prose in Stocksbridge Library, written by members of Stocksbridge Library’s Writing for Pleasure group.
The Great HomeGrown Art Trail
Last year local children provided dozens of drawings and paintings about ‘Our Town’. This year business along the high street will once again become a gallery for the children’s creations, exploring this year’s theme of ‘Our Town Past and Future’.

Open Garden – Sculpture and Biodiversity
10.00 – 16.00 4 Armitage Rd, Deepcar. Noel Lockley’s work is all made from recycled materials, mainly steel and stone. Each piece has its own story. His garden was the winner of a garden of the year green fingers competition. In his garden he concentrates on making art on biodiversity and showing how to make a functioning outside space, whether in a large garden or a hanging basket.

You CAN join a choir!

Steel Valley Beacon Big Sing!
Music for Stage and Screen
Beacon’s big sing is an opportunity for anyone aged 16+ interested in singing music for stage and screen in a choir setting. Repertoire will include a mixture of SATB including musical theatre items such as Les Misérables.
All music will be provided and there will be a variety of rehearsals to choose from on Tuesday, Friday evenings and Sundays at Christ Church Stocksbridge – you do not need to attend them all and costs £20 for non-members.
Performances will be the afternoon of May 6th in collaboration with Bolsterstone Male Voice choir and then as a stand alone concert on
Friday May 12th and Saturday May 13th 7.15pm
The project will be lead by choral specialist Daniel Timmins with the support of local composer Joseph Shaw, who are committed to providing the best coaching in a friendly and inclusive environment.
