Staff

Mandy Aitken Artistic Director has a BA in Performance for Stage and Screen and an
MA in Performance Practices. Mandy has been AD of Beacon for 8 years and has
performed with amateur theatre companies for 35 years. When Mandy took over as
Artistic Director Beacon had just 12 actors, at the start of 2020 there were 75 actors
and 30 volunteers. Mandy has successfully directed 14 shows from “Oliver” in 2017 to
the “Addams Family Musical” in 2019. She had just received extremely positive
feedback from the National Theatre about our Youth production of “Marxist in
Heaven”. Over lock down Mandy mentored a group of our youth through a script
writing program, 4 short plays were submitted to Rob Hastie, Artistic Director of
Sheffield Theatres who said “

The Vision of Steel Valley Beacon Arts is to be an excellent example of community theatre;
working together, building individual & group confidence & self-esteem to provide quality
entertainment in the community.

Our Mission

The Mission of Steel Valley Beacon Arts is to offer the opportunity to anyone in our area to
develop their performing arts skills in a safe inclusive environment in order to create quality
theatre productions for our community.

for children, young adults and adults. We seek to be an integral part of the cultural life of this
area. We strive to partner with local artists, to partner with local institutions and organisations
and to engage our audiences in the development of our work.
